The American Raptors have a great opportunity to continue their push for a playoff spot when they square off against Selknam at Infinity Park on Sunday afternoon.

Coming off back-to-back victories over Cobras Brasil and Yacare XV, the Raptors are looking for both their third-straight win and a .500 record for the first time since joining Super Rugby Americas ahead of the 2023 season.

A win on Sunday would also do wonders for the Raptors playoff chances. Following their 35-33 victory over Yacare – who entered Round 6 in second place – the Raptors find themselves a single table point out of fourth place ahead of Round 7.

Three points behind the Raptors in the table is Selknam. Selknam sits at 1-1-3 through five matches with their lone win coming over Cobras Brasil in Round 2. Before the league-wide Easter break, they played Dogos – who sit atop the league table – to a 23-23 draw.

Saturday will mark the third-ever meeting between the Raptors and Selknam. The two teams split the season series in 2023, with Selknam defeating the Raptors 45-10 in Round 1 in Chile, and the Raptors defeating Selknam 26-22 at Infinity Park in Round 9  to secure their first-ever Super Rugby Americas victory.

The Raptors are hoping for a similar result on Sunday afternoon.

For the second week in a row, the Raptors will be squaring off against a team that has received more yellow cards on the season than they have. Selknam has received 10 yellow cards – the second-most in the entire competition – while the Raptors sit in a tie for the fourth-most with seven.

What makes the Raptors’ current two-match winning streak more impressive is the fact that they’ve done so while receiving two yellow cards in both matches. If the Raptors can stay out of the sin bin, they’ll give themselves a great chance to win on Sunday afternoon.

Offensively, the Raptors and Selknam are pretty evenly matched. Both clubs enter the Round 7 clash having scored 13 tries apiece, and Selknam has scored just 19 more points than the Raptors on the season. The Raptors still find themselves at the bottom of the table in the points conceded category with 199 while Selknam is right in the middle with 143. Two bonus point victories have helped shore up the Raptors point differential over the past two weeks, and they will look to continue that trend into Round 7.

The Raptors and Selknam will face off at Infinity Park on Sunday, April 7 at 3 PM MT. The gates for the match will open at 2:30 PM, and tickets for the Round 7 clash can be purchased here. Fans who can’t make it out can watch the match live on ESPN+.
